Webber Wentzel Scholarship, South Africa: Law

As part of our corporate social investment strategy, and in an endeavour to recruit and develop talented individuals.

The scholarship is expected to cover tuition fees, residence fees and the costs of text books (or any part thereof). Accordingly payments will be made to your University’s Financial Aid and Scholarships Office which will disburse such monies against invoices for tuition and/or residence and/or text books in the first instance. Should there be a positive balance remaining, these monies can be used for living expenses.

The following conditions and criteria will apply to each scholarship:
* you must be registered for the penultimate year of the LLB degree; and
* the primary criterion that will be taken into account is academic excellence.

Other factors that may be taken into account in appropriate cases are :
* whether you are from a previously disadvantaged background;
* whether you are able to show financial need.

If you are successful, the scholarship will be re-awarded for your final year of LLB degree provided that, your conduct remains satisfactory, all subjects for the penultimate year of LLB studies are passed with a satisfactory mark and that these are completed in the minimum prescribed period. Recipients of scholarships will be people who, in the opinion of Webber Wentzel, have the potential to become a successful attorney at the firm, and will be required to participate in vacation work programmes offered to him/her by Webber Wentzel.

Although not guaranteed, Webber Wentzel would consider employing the recipient as a Candidate Attorney on completion of his/her LLB degree, dependant on academic progress and achievement, and the existence of suitable vacancies. If offered employment by Webber Wentzel, the recipient would be obliged to accept such offer, which will be on terms no less favourable than the terms of employment of all other first year Candidate Attorneys employed by Webber Wentzel in that year.

The recipient of the scholarships may be expected to meet with representatives of Webber Wentzel from time to time, and the University will be requested to afford Webber Wentzel regular progress reports.

Wells Mountain Foundation, INC. Scholarships for Third World Countries, 2011-2012, UK

The Wells Mountain Foundation is a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont which has been approved under the United States Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3). The purpose of the Foundation is primarily to support programs and individuals in third world countries, or other situations of extreme poverty and need.Each year the Foundation provides support to a number of students as they pursue various educational objectives. Typically support is provided for post-secondary school (college, university, polytechnic, trade school). Financial support is primarily to cover the costs of the education itself, and directly related expenses including books, and supplies at the educational institution. In some limited cases the support can be extended to cover other personal expenses
while pursuing the educational objective including food and lodging, travel to and from the educational institution, and other personal needs.
Scholarships will generally be granted for the full period of study, however, recipients must provide copies of all progress reports and grades as they are received and the scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance.

European Master in Transnational Trade Law & Finance

European Master in Transnational Trade Law & Finance (EMTTLF), a new Erasmus Mundus Master Program. This Master is a joint Postgraduate Program offered by 4 European Leading Universities and coordinated by the School of Law of the University of Deusto.

This Master aims are:

image019 To directly respond to this increasing internationalization; to teach international trade law and finance, understood from various perspectives and dimensions; to develop a Programme which dissects the relevant juridical questions arising from international transactions.
-To promote the interdisciplinary and multicultural facets of the Programme, attempting to provide the students with a diversity of working contexts. The students will be pursuing their graduate studies through three distinct but complementary cultural environments: Track 1: Deusto (Spain), Tilburg (The Netherlands), ILF (Germany) or Track 2: Deusto (Spain), Tilburg (The Netherlands), Strasbourg (France).

-To equip the learner with the fundamental tools, at an advanced level, to approach complex realities providing them with competencies and all the necessary elements needed to critically analyze a commercial conflict form a European perspective (First Semester) or from an International perspective (Second Semester).
-To provide three areas of specialization: Intellectual and Industrial Property (pertinent to management and innovation); Finance (related to bank and finance); and finally, European Business Law (oriented towards a broader training in European business trade).
– To offer possibilities to students who wish to either take the internship and professional track or the research track.
-To acquire a trans-national perspective. The Programme will have an impact on the continuous formation of the executive and management board of business enterprises. The pertinent benefits will optimize business results, the opening up of companies to the emerging markets, and the maximization of competitive advantages.
-To focus on a problem-based approach developed by these educational institutions rather than on a traditional methodology.
-To adopt a student-centered approach where she/he is the focal point of learning and will therefore be equipped with the skills to progress independently.
