Erasmus Mundus: Master’s Programme of Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems

The master’s programme in Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems (SELECT) offers advanced schooling in the field of sustainable energy systems for the future. SELECT aims at delivering schooling for high competency and quality engineering skills in the field, including industrial interaction throughout the programme. Students graduating from the SELECT programme will have gained experience in the following topics:

– Training in multidisciplinary issue analysis and solving.
– Advanced team building in a multinational setting, along with stimulating international experience.
– A novel and multidimensional way of learning involving actual and virtual classrooms
– Close collaboration with industry in the work of thesis work.
– A distinctive network of fellow students, SELECT alumni and industry specialists in the field of sustainable energy.

The SELECT master’s programme is presently a cooperation between the Royal Institute of Know-how in Sweden (KTH), Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), Eindhoven University of Know-how in the Netherlands (TUE), Technical University of Catalonia in Spain (UPC) and Aalto University School of Science and Know-how in Finland (Aalto). SELECT is also part of the InnoEnergy Sustainable Energy masters programme. It is a two-year Master’s programme including compulsory mobility for the scholars.

SELECT is powered by scholarships opportunities from Erasmus Mundus, as well as the EIT KIC InnoEnergy. Students from all over the world are welcome to apply.

The application deadline for applicants from EU-member states is being revised due to changes instructed by the European Commission. Please visit the website regularly to stay updated.

Required documents for SELECT:

  1. A signed cover sheet (generated from the web-based application at studera.nu/english – application code SELEC)
  2. A correctly certified copy of your bachelor’s degree in original language and translated into English.
  3. A correctly certified copy of your transcript of records in original language and translated into English. All courses taken must be included.
  4. Proof of your English proficiency.
  5. A Curriculum vitae including details on your academic career.
  6. A letter of motivation.
  7. A copy of your passport or some other kind of identification in English.
  8. Two letters of recommendation from professors of the most recently attended higher institution.

// The EACEA (the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) awards 7 to 10 category A scholarships and 6 to 8 category B scholarships per Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme.

Category A scholarships:

Application period: 15 September-15 November

can be awarded to applicants from non-EU member states (but not to applicants from Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland)

UNLESS they have resided in a EU member state or in Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland, for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years (by 31 January of the year of enrollment).

The category A scholarship includes:
– Travel and installation costs: € 8000 for a 2 year programme
– Participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 4000/semester
– Monthly allowance: € 1000/month

Category B scholarships

Application period: 15 January-30 March

can be awarded to applicants from EU-member states and to applicants from Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland

The category B scholarship includes:
– Travel and installation costs – only if the EM master’s programme includes a mobility period to a Third-Country partner: € 3000
– Participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 2000/semester
– Monthly allowance: € 500/month

Who can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (Action 1)?

Candidates who apply for an Erasmus Mundus Master Programme are at the same time considered for a scholarship nomination for this specific programme. The scholarships are awarded to the highest ranked candidates that fulfill the following scholarship conditions:

  • The applicant has applied correctly, fulfilled the admission requirements and is nominated for a scholarship by the EM consortium.
  • The applicant has not applied to more than three (3) Erasmus Mundus master’s programmes during one round of applications.
  • The applicant should be able to spend his study period in at least two of the consortium partner countries. These two countries must be different from the country in which the applicant has obtained his/her last university degree; the mandatory mobility periods cannot be replaced by virtual mobility, neither can they take place in institutions outside the consortium.
  • The applicant has not yet benefited from an EM master’s programme scholarship.
  • The applicant should not benefit from another Community grant while pursuing their Erasmus Mundus masters studies.
  • The applicant should be enrolled as a full-time student and commit himself to participate in the master’s programme in accordance with the terms defined by the consortium in the Student Agreement. Failure to do so could lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.

NZ Institute for Crop & Food Research Ltd Statistics Scholarship, New Zealand

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage postgraduate study on statistical problems relevant to crop and food production and of interest to the New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research Ltd.

1.Applicants must be enrolled in a postgraduate programme of study in statistics at either Lincoln University or Massey University.

2.The scholarship is tenable for one year of full-time or part-time research.

3.Crop & Food Research Ltd shall approve the research project or thesis research and a Crop & Food Research biometrician shall be the second supervisor.

4.The value of the scholarship shall be $5,000 for a full-time thesis, but may be reduced on a pro-rata basis for smaller projects or part-time study.

5.The scholarship may be held concurrently with any other scholarship or award provided the regulations of the award allow it.

6.Applicants must not hold any other positions of emolument, but are permitted to undertake casual work to a maximum of 500 hours in any 12-month period.

7.Payments will normally be made in two equal instalments in April and August, subject to satisfactory progress.

8.The criteria for selection shall be academic merit and the candidate’s interest in the projects available from Crop & Food Research Ltd. The selection committee shall consist of two representatives from Crop & Food Research Ltd and the academic leaders from the Auckland and Palmerston North campuses. Crop & Food Research Ltd reserves the right not to award the scholarship in any year.

PhD Position with Scholarship in Materials Science, UBC Okanagan School of Engineering, Canada

A funded position for a PhD student is immediately available in the field of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Materials Science.

The candidate should have a Master’s degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering. Knowledge of materials characterization techniques is necessary (optical microscopy, SEM, EDX, image analysis, microstructure characterization).

Experience with thermal analysis, diffraction techniques, high-temperature mechanical behavior measurement, powder metallurgy and metalcasting are an asset.

The student will work on the development of creep-resistant magnesium alloys, and their subsequent characterization.
