ESSKA Scholarship for International Applicants: Orthopaedic sports medicine, Arthroscopy

The ESSKA Scholarship programme is reserved to young colleagues from Eastern Europe (10 candidates each year) and from throughout the world (5 candidates each year), who strongly wish to enlarge and improve their knowledge and competencies in orthopaedic sports medicine, knee surgery and arthroscopy.

The scholarship allows the scholars to visit highly qualified teaching surgeons and recognized sports medicine centres in Western Europe for several weeks.

Candidates must be, at the time of application, below 40 years of age. The scholars will be notified of their selection during the month of June of each year. The scholarship lasts 1 month and the exact date of the scholarship will be chosen by the Head of the selected Centre in accordance with his availability.

The scholarship can only be won once. Applicants who have not been selected are allowed to apply again.

The amount of the grant is 1.700 EUR, which will have to cover all expenses of the applicant who, during his stay, will be lodged at his own expense.

You can apply for this scholarship if you
are a national of (or permanently domiciled in) Africa, India or one of the countries of the Commonwealth listed below* and are classed as an overseas student for fee purposes and already hold an offer to start a full-time Masters degree programme (including MRes) at Nottingham in 2011 – Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences and Faculty of Science, plus some courses in the School of Geography, Institute for Science & Society, Institute of Work, Health & Organisations, and courses allied to Operations Management in the Business School

Hugh Kelly Fellowship 2012, South Africa: Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology

The Hugh Kelly Fellowship is awarded to enable senior scientists to devote themselves to advanced work. The value of the Fellowship covers:

* Direct return economy class airfare from the Fellow’s residence.
* University accommodation with electricity and water included.
* R5000.00 monthly cash stipend to supplement the Fellow’s usual source of income, or if you are accompanied by your partner R7500.00 per month cash stipend.
* If the Fellow accepts the appointment for at least four months and is accompanied by a partner, the partner’s return economy air fare will also be paid.

The successful applicant will be expected to take up residence in Grahamstown between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2012.

Applicants should be senior scholars of standing with an extensive research publication record. Please apply to the Research Office, Rhodes University enclosing a full statement of the work proposed, together with a curriculum vitae and the names of three referees who can attest to the applicant’s standing.

The tenure of the Fellowship can be for periods of between three and ten months. The Fellow will be required to reside in Grahamstown and will be an honorary member of the staff of the University for the term of the Fellowship. The Fellow will be provided with internet access and use of the Library, as well as such facilities as may be required for research. At the conclusion of the Fellowship, the Fellow will be required to present a concise report on the work completed.

The tenure of the Fellowship shall be acknowledged by the Fellow in all publications which may emanate from the Fellowship.
