Doctoral Scholarship in Geographic Information Science, University of Salzburg, Austria

Requirements are the excellent completion of a degree at the Masters level in Geoinformatics, Geomatics, Computer Science or any scientific/technical subject in a relevant field, and excellent English language (both oral and writing) skills. Applicants have to submit the complete scholarship application as detailed at the under “Application form” (see left hand side of this website).
Candidates will be selected by the selection committee consisting of the faculty members. Successful candidates will then be invited to start their official admission process at the University of Salzburg. For this first selection process only electronic documentation is required.Undersign the last page electronically. SRF Positions in Complex Systems at University of Oxford, UK

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Fellow in Complex Systems who will join the research group based at the CABDyN Complexity Centre at the University of Oxford. The advertised post is funded through one of the CABDyN Complexity Centre’s new projects: “Forecasting Financial Crises: Measurements, Models and Predictions” is funded under the European Commission’s Framework 7, Future of Emerging Technologies Open Scheme. The project aims to address the very important challenge of improving our ability to detect early warning signals for potential instabilities and crises in financial markets, by developing novel network-based measures and software tools that can be applied to large-scale financial datasets on a real-time basis.

Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in a cognate discipline e.g. mathematical biology, computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics, physics, or quantitative sociology (social network analysis) from a major research university, with postdoctoral training in complex systems and networks, and with a track record of serious interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement. Candidates will be expected to show evidence of substantial practical experience of managing and working with large-scale empirical data sets for research purposes, some familiarity more specifically with financial data sets, and an established interest in finance research literature. An appropriate track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications on complex systems and networks, and good programming skills will be essential.The Senior Research Fellow will manage and analyse different large-scale financial datasets used in this project, will oversee the day-to-day management, will present research results at international workshops and conferences, and will co-author articles for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals.

The University of Cape Town Research Associateships, South Africa

The Research Associateships have been established to provide prestigious awards to reward excellent student researchers, who are registered for full-time study and to recognise and support the work of their supervisors.
The purpose of the Research Associateships is to align reward and recognition of the research undertaken by students and their supervisors, with the University’s strategic objectives to be research-led and to be a transforming university.

Eligibility Criteria
o Only students who are registered for full-time study for the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of the Doctoral degree
o Upgrades: Where a student has upgraded from Masters to Doctoral, she/he is eligible only in the 1st and 2nd year of DOCTORAL study (notwithstanding the number of years that she/he was registered for Masters).
o Only students who are registered for full-time study in the 1st and 2nd years of a Master’s degree by dissertation only
o Only students who are registered for full-time study in the 2nd year of a Master’s degree by coursework and research.
o Students registered for full-time study in the Commerce Faculty for a 4-year Doctoral degree (whereby the 1st year consists of coursework and is certificated) are eligible and may be nominated in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year.
o Students who meet the above criteria must be NOMINATED by their supervisors. Individual application from students will not be accepted.
o Full time Staff members are not eligible.
