2011-2012 International EF Education, Kaplan and Study Group Scholarships, UK

International applicants from EF Education, Kaplan and Study Group for the 2011/12 academic year may apply for a Sheffield Hallam University scholarship worth £1000. To mark the partnership between our institutions, Sheffield Hallam University is offering a scholarship of £1000 to one student from each of the three colleges who begins a full-time course with us in the 2011/12 academic year. All full-time taught courses are taking part in this scheme.  Successful applicants will be awarded with a cheque and a certificate to mark their achievement at an annual Scholarships ceremony.
Eligibility: You are eligible to apply for the scholarship if

  • you are an international or European student and classed as such for fees purposes
  • you can meet the course entry requirements as specified in your offer
  • you have given a firm or insurance acceptance of your offer on your chosen course starting in September 2011
  • you can demonstrate in your personal statement, along with your personal or academic achievements so far, how the award of this scholarship will benefit you

JRF for PhD in Life Sciences at Tata Memorial Centre, India

The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The TMC is comprised of the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) and the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH). The TMC conducts Ph.D. program in Life Sciences and is affiliated to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University). On-going research at TMC includes basic and translational work in the field of Cancer Cell Biology. Specific research topics includes study of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metastasis, tumor immunology, immunotherapy, virology, chemotherapy and carcinogenesis, gene therapy in animal models, tumor markers, structural biology, proteomics, genomics, genetics and glycobiology.

Qualifications: M.Sc. (Applied Biology/ Biochemistry/ Biophysics/ Biotechnology/ Botany/ Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/ Zoology); M.Tech. (Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology); M.B.B.S.; from a recognized University, with ?60% aggregate marks. Those awaiting results may also apply.

Stipend: Rs. 16000/-+ 30% HRA (if hostel facility is not allotted) per month as applicable. Limited hostel facility is available on the ACTREC campus on first come, first served basis.

University of the Witwatersrand Postgraduate Merit Award 2011, South Africa

University Postgraduate Merit Awards will be awarded on the basis of academic merit..Students who register for postgraduate diplomas, BEd, LLB degrees or GDE are not eligible for University Postgraduate Merit Awards.

Please note that the normal maximum tenure of a postgraduate merit award is:
a) Doctors (Post-Masters) – three years
b) Doctors (Post-Honours) – four years
c) Masters – two years
d) Honours – one year

A postgraduate merit awardee/bursar is obliged to work for a minimum of six and a maximum of nine hours per week in the University Department/School.

There is a minimum academic requirement for a University Postgraduate Merit Award and applicants should consult the rules.
