University of Leeds, Research Scholarship in Business Management 2011 in UK

Up to 18 University Research Scholarships are available for UK and EU students for Session 2011-2012 for study in any Faculty at the University of Leeds.  Up to 2 awards are available in each Faculty.

  • Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number(Student ID Number) to be eligible for a University Research Scholarship.  Applications without a valid University ID Number will be rejected.  To apply for a place on a research degree programme, please visit: These awards are only available to nationals from the UK and EU and are not open to applicants who are liable to pay academic fees at the international fee rate;
  • Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree.  Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study;
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English Language requirements.  Some Schools require a standard of English higher than the University minimum;
  • These awards are not open to individuals who have already been awarded a Doctoral degree.

REGULATIONS

These include the following (full information on the regulations will be sent to all successful applicants):

Awards must be taken up on 1 October 2011;

  • The awards are available for new research students undertaking full-time (3 years) or part-time (5 years) study leading to the degree of PhD.  Students who are already registered for PhD research study are excluded from this competition;
  • The award will cover academic fees at the UK rate and a maintenance grant of £13,895 for full-time study, part-time will be pro-rata.  There are no additional allowances for travel or research costs;
  • The award will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress;
  • Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this Scholarship.

Applicants must complete all sections of the University Postgraduate Research Scholarship Application Form, using the space provided on the form and with strict observation of any word limits.  Attachments are not permitted and all will be disregarded.

Carnegie Corporation Research Scholarships for Doctoral Students, South Africa: Molecular and Cell Biology

The scholarships are funded by the Carnegie Corporation and form part of a grant established to recruit and support Doctoral students who have an intention to remain in academia. The intention is to develop a cohort of trainee academics and thereby contribute to growing the next generation of academics and to strengthen higher education in Africa.

Applications are invited from candidates who are suitably qualified and who are registered in the 1S‘, 2″”, 3” or 4“‘ year of Doctoral study, or who intend to register for full-time study at the University of Cape Town for the Doctoral degree in Department of l\/lolecular and Cell Biology, on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human infectious diseases.
Preference will be given to B/ack Africans and previously disadvantaged South Africans. Conditions of Award and Eligibility: Successful candidates may undertake part-time employment that is related to the research being undertaken. Such employment may only be undertaken with the permission of the Supervisor and Project Director and must be limited to no more than 15 hours per week.

Commonwealth Scholarship for Doctoral Studies at University of Pretoria, South Africa

The University of Pretoria regards itself as a research intensive university. Hence, it is seeking candidates for doctoral studies who will make significant contributions to its research endeavours.
As part of an initiative by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the University of Pretoria has made funds available for two doctoral scholarships for students coming from Commonwealth Countries (excluding South African students). This scholarship will be known as the University ofPretoria Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarship and will be awarded on a competitive basis. The University of Pretoria has established a reputation for academic excellence, particularly in relation to some of its major research activities. Information about these research activities can be obtained from the Research website of the University.
1. Eligibility
· The Doctoral Scholarship will be awarded to applicants who are citizens of Countries.
· Applicants must conduct their studies at the University of Pretoria.
· Applicants must have completed the degree that will give them admission to a doctoral programme a maximum of three years prior to their application for the University of Pretoria Commonwealth Doctoral Scholarship.
· Applicants must not be older than 35 years of age at time of application.
· Masters students currently registered at the University of Pretoria are not eligible for
the Doctoral Scholarship.
