Postdoctoral Fellowship in Social Sciences in Sub-Saharan Africa, 2011

This Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation,the Volkswagen Foundation and other European partners aims at providing sustainable support for research in Sub-Saharan Africa. Besides an African-European cooperation, special emphasis is put on the development and extension of academic networks within Africa.This call is part of the Foundations’ career development strategy for African researchers in which junior and senior postdoctoral fellows should take responsibility for developing and executing their own research project and show leadership responsibilities for their research group (in the case of senior fellows). The project must be carried out in collaboration with a European partner institution. The call is open to all scholars from Sub-Saharan Africa active in the research fields mentioned below.

Change Fellowship Awards 2012 for Early Career Psychologists, Africa

The Change Fellowship Awards enable early career researchers to design and implement their own research programmes that address the challenges and opportunities confronting children and youth developing in situations of social change and the particular cultural and economic situation in their country. Change Fellowships are intended to provide applicants with an opportunity to demonstrate their research capabilities in a manner that will advance their careers and attract future opportunities for support.

Change Fellows will be required to present their initial research results at ICP 2012 and
programme time will be allocated for these presentations.

These awards are made possible by a major grant from the Jacobs Foundation, with additional support from the National Research Foundation in South Africa and IUPsyS. Seven awards of €25 000 each are available. This amount may be used for research related expenses, including research equipment, data collection, and travel to, registration for and accommodation during ICP 2012. A proposed budget should be included as an annex to the research proposal.

The award is open to early career psychologists who have completed the PhD (or full equivalent) in the 10 years preceding ICP 2012. Considerations may also be given where a longer period has elapsed due to official leave and/or extenuating circumstances beyond the
control of the applicant.

Applicants must be permanent residents of a Sub-Saharan African country. They must either be located in a recognized university or reputed research institution,or be accepted as a guest researcher at such an institution.

Research Fellowship in the Department of Botany at Lucknow University, India

Applications are invited for the purely temporary position of a Research Fellow (JRF/SRF) in CSIR sponsored project entitled “Predicting ploidy response to body size and productivity in aromatic grasses: Histological, developmental and histochemical characterization of cell geometry in diploid vs. autopolyploid clones”, with the undersigned. Salary shall be commensurate with the prevailing rates for JRF / SRF as per CSIR rules. The position is co?terminus with the project and the person employed in the project shall have no claim to any University position, permanent or otherwise. Candidates should apply on plain paper clearly mentioning their educational qualifications and percentage obtained at graduate and post graduate level. There is no application fee. Performance at the interview and the academic qualifications of the candidates shall form the basis of selection. Applications are acceptable only as hardcopy and should be delivered in person to the PI (Seshu Lavania). Copies of all the relevant documents (proof of date of birth, marks sheets for B.Sc and M.Sc and NET / GATE result) must accompany the application. The original documents are required to be produced at the time of interview.
Eligibility: NET or GATE qualified candidates with M.Sc in Botany / Plant Science may apply. Students having qualified NET under the categories i) JRF and ii) Lecturership (NET) or those having qualified GATE shall be considered. Candidates possessing a sound background of Plant systematics and histological / histochemical techniques will be preferred.
