PhD in Experimental Nanobioscience and Dairy Research,University of Southern Denmark, Denmark

A PhD scholarship in experimental nanobioscience and dairy research is available at the Department of Physics and Chemistry (IFK) from 15 May, 2011 – 15 May, 2014.The position is associated with the MEMPHYS-Center for Biomembrane Physics with collaborators at NanoSYD (ALSION, SDU), Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB, SDU) and LIFE (KU).Outstanding candidates with a strong background in nanobioscience, biophysics, bioimaging, or related fields are invited to apply. Experience with the characterization of soft nanoparticles and nanostructures will be an advantage. The candidate will be involved in a highly interdisciplinary project devoted to the characterization of casein micelles and other soft nanostructures in dairy samples. The project will focus on high resolution imaging and establishing a link between nanostructure and derived product function.

The successful candidate will be required to perform experiments at SDU (Odense, DK) as well as NanoSYD (Sønderborg, DK). The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Molecular Biophysics at the University of Southern Denmark.Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

International PhD Positions, MPI-CBG, Germany: Cell and Developmental Biology/Regenerative Medicine/Nanobiotechnology, Biophysics and Bioengineering

The International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Cell Biology and Bioengineering (IMPRS-MCBB) is a joint program of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), and was established as one of the first International Max Planck Research Schools by the Max Planck Society in 2001.
The IMPRS-MCBB provides interdisciplinary training and research opportunities in a highly attractive and inspiring research environment for outstanding University Graduates who wish to work towards a PhD in the fields of Molecular Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Developmental Biology, Genetics, Biophysics, Neurobiology and Bioinformatics.

The IMPRS-MCBB hosts about 150 PhD students from over 30 countries in total. Admission to the IMPRS-MCBB is highly competitive, with approximately 40 candidates being admitted each year. PhD students have a primary affiliation with one of the participating research groups, and are enrolled as graduate students at the TUD. The language of the PhD Program is English. The duration of thesis is 3 to 4 years.

Three-Year Doctoral Fellowship in Linguistics, Germany

The candidates should be able to make contributions to the department’s areas of research.
The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology studies human diversity and human origins in a multidisciplinary perspective. The contribution of linguistics to this goal lies in the study of the history and prehistory of languages (and peoples) around the world (especially non-European languages), as well as the current diversity of human languages (linguistic fieldwork on little-described and endangered languages and language typology). The Department of Linguistics collaborates with the Department of Evolutionary Genetics and the Max Planck Research Group on Comparative Population Linguistics to compare the evidence from linguistics and genetics for the prehistory of human populations.
Doctoral fellows should already have an MA in Linguistics or an equivalent qualification by the start of their fellowship, and be either registered or qualified to register in a recognized doctoral program at a university or equivalent degree-awarding institution. Doctoral fellows have the possibility of obtaining their doctoral degree through the University of Leipzig .

Regular participation in the department’s talks, seminars and workshops is expected. Except for approved absences (e.g. fieldwork, conferences, vacation), the place of work is Leipzig. The fellowship is available from 01 October 2011, but a later starting date may be negotiated, no later, however, than 01 January 2012.
There are no teaching obligations, but the opportunity for teaching in the linguistics program of the University of Leipzig exists.
