You will work in a collaborative project of the Max-Planck-Institutes of Microstructure Physics in Halle and the Max-Planck-Institute of Colloid Research in Golm with initial affiliation in Halle. The position is aimed for 1 year with a possibility of an extension for 1 more year.
The intended research is in the field of synthesis, modification, and characterization of properties of materials at the boundary between biomaterials and inorganic materials. The approaches are interdisciplinary and involve gas phase deposition methods, in particular atomic layer deposition (ALD), as well as handling of biomaterials and characterization by microscopy, spectroscopy, and diffraction methods. The candidate will hold a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or any related field, will have a strong interest in a multidisciplinary work, and an experience in either or multiple of the above techniques.
The position is aimed for an immediate start, thus applications for a soon appointment are explicitly encouraged.

2 PhD Anniversary Research Studentships at Bangor University, UK: Implementation in Health and Social Care

Children with disabilities tend to have frequent contact with health, social care, and specialist education services as they grow up. Whilst health outcomes have improved, disabled children experience some of the most significant physical and mental health disparities in our society. Some children and families, however, appear to be more ‘resilient’ to early challenging childhood experiences than others. Current services rarely specifically focus on promoting wellbeing and resilience in children with disabilities. Little is known about what constitutes ‘resilience promoting’ interventions and services to promote wellbeing, and work needs to be undertaken to understand better how resilience can be promoted and measured. This studentship will explore conceptual, methodological, measurement and interventional issues in relation to wellbeing, resilience and disabled children. Significant energies are directed at closing the gap between the producers of knowledge, public policy, service delivery and the experiences and outcomes of service users. In health and social care, for example, there is a need to base practice on evidence of ‘what works’, although getting evidence into practice is complex and dependent on multiple factors. A wide range of international and national implementation research programmes are being conducted at Bangor University with partners in health and social care and other public services which will provide a foundation for PhD studentships.

2011 Graduate Program in Neuroscience and Cognition at UFABC in Brazil

The application process will occur in three phases: i) evaluation of curriculum vitae (CV), ii) interview and iii) general test and English proficiency. You do not need prior acceptance of a supervisor or to present a research project. However, we suggest that applicants come into contact with potential mentors to check on the availability of research projects in the intended areas.1st stage:The assessment consists of evaluation of academic titles, academic performance, production, work experience and (optional) letters of recommendation .2nd stage:Candidates approved in the first stage will be invited to an interview by permanent members of the program. The interview can be done in person or by teleconference, according to the choice of the candidate.

3rd stage: Candidates approved to the third stage will be invited to attend a written general exam and an English proficiency exam, both in person, at the the UFABC facilities. The general and English proficiency exams can be substituted, respectively, by the General GRE exam and the TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent. The substitution will take place only when requested by the applicant in the application form and is subject to the analysis of the application committee.
The general exam is focused on abilities such as comprehension, logical reasoning and argumentation of the candidate. It is advantageous to have pPrior knowledge in more than one of the following areas: (1) neuroscience and biology, (2) cognitive sciences and (3) mathematics (such as calculus and probability) and biostatistics. The following list of references is suggestive in relation to these subjects.
