PhD Studentship at Queen Mary, University of London

Queen Mary Studentships are open to suitably qualified candidates from the UK, EU and overseas. To apply you should have a good first degree (BA or BSc Honours or equivalent), at first class standard (or upper second class with clear evidence of 1st class work), and/or a Masters qualification (at Merit or above) in Geography or a cognate discipline related to the Studentship. Applicants for Studentship 4 (Emotions and the Home in Modern Britain) must hold a Masters degree in a geographical or historical subject related to the themes of the studentship.

Research Position in Biometerics, Africa Rice Center, Cotonou

Under the supervision of the Biometrician, the Research Assistant will be in charge of all activities related to biometrics/statistics at AfricaRice.
-He/she will be responsible of the following activities:
-Analyzing research data using appropriate statistical software Formulating advices for establishing field, greenhouse and lab trials
-Creating tables and graphs using appropriate software
-Bibliographic searching and writing technical reports and other scientific
-publications in English and French
-Assist in preparing presentations/slides on research results using- software such as PowerPoint
-Undertake any other professional task depending on the needs of the Center
Qualifications
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
-M.Sc. degree or equivalence in biometrics, biostatistics or statistics
-At least 2?year experience in data collection and statistical analysis of agronomical, environmental and socio?economic data.
-Experience in establishing and monitoring agricultural trials is desirable.
-Knowledge of statistical analysis packages such as GenStat, R, SAS, STATA as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
-Experience in teaching statistics to non?statisticians
-Mastery of English or French with working knowledge of the other language
-Be able to work under pressure in a multicultural setting
-Have a spirit of initiative and be able to carry out tasks with minimum supervision
