2011 CODESRIA Advanced Research Fellowship Programme, Africa: Social Sciences and Humanities

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa is pleased to announce the 2011 session of its Advanced Research Fellowship Programme and to invite interested scholars based in African universities or research centres to submit applications for consideration for an award.

To be eligible, candidates are expected to be holders of a doctoral degree in any of the social sciences and humanities. The doctoral degree should have been obtained within five years of the date of submission of the application. All applicants are required to be affiliated to an African research institution.
Requirements for Application Candidates wishing to be considered for the award of a fellowship are requested to submit the following documents.

2011 Doctoral Fellowships in UCT Institute for Humanities in Africa

HUMA – the Institute for the Humanities in Africa – is a new initiative at UCT,
intended to create a space of dynamic interdisciplinary community for scholars and students in the humanities at large, and to promote independent and informed debate within wider intellectual publics. Based in the Faculties of Humanities and Law, HUMA’s intellectual agenda is shaped by two primary research themes, On Being Human and Circuits of Consumption.

The doctoral programme on offer will include (non-credit bearing) courses on critical theoretical and methodological issues, which doctoral fellows will be required to attend. Given our interest in nurturing academic talent, doctoral fellows will also be expected to play an active part in HUMA’s intellectual life, including our programme of seminars, symposia and lectures.Each fellowship is worth R149 000 per annum.

2011-2012 Scrymgeour Scholarships in Law at University of Dundee, UK

For the 2011 – 2012 academic year (September entries) Dundee Law School will be offering up to 4 Scrymgeour Scholarships to the value of £3,000 to applicants for its taught and research LLM programmes. Applicants must already have applied for admission to an LLM degree programme. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Suitably qualified applicants must submit their letter of motivation to Mrs Fiona Clark to be received by Friday, 15 July 2011. Successful applicants will be contacted as soon as possible after the closing date. Scholarships will ordinarily be set off against the University fee invoice for 2011 – 2012. In all circumstances the award will only be transferred once successful applicants have paid the balance in fees owed by them to the University.
