Rieger Foundation Fellowship Programme in Environmental Studies, USA

The Rieger Foundation-Jewish National Fund Program for Environmental Studies, published its annual announcement on graduate fellowships for 2011 to support (USD 3,000-5,000 /per year) graduate students towards advanced (mostly PhD) degrees in an Israeli institution of higher education, who have a Research Advisor (Professor or equivalent), and are devoted to environmental related studies/research.

Research Subject, Scientific and Practical Goals of the Research, and Technical Means and Approach of the Research, plus its Motivations both Scientific and Environmental, plus names and email addresses of your Research Advisor(s).
Your Submittal will be reviewed by people with scientific and engineering training so that sufficient detail is necessary, but the length is left to your discretion. Most past submittals have been 3-12 pages in length, often with figures, photographs, formulae, references, etc.If this is a Renewal Application, then only an Up-grading of previously submitted information is required, but the Foundation is anxious to see clear evidence of your Research Progress.

TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowship Programme in Biotechnology, India

TWAS-DBT Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at key biotechnology research institutions in India for a period of up to five years.
Applicants may be registered for a PhD degree in their home country, or may enrol in a PhD course at a host laboratory/institute in India. To help candidates in their choice of a suitable host institution a list of biotechnology institutes in India is available here: List_Biotechn_India.pdf. However, candidates are free to choose an Indian biotechnology institution that does not appear on the list.
DBT will provide a monthly stipend to cover for living costs, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency. In addition, the fellowship holder will receive a house rent allowance.
The language of instruction is English

Eligibility
Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:
* Be a maximum age of 30 years on 31 December of the application year.
* Be nationals of a developing country (other than India).
* Hold a Master’s or equivalent degree in science or engineering.
* Be regularly employed in a developing country and hold a research assignment there.
* For SANDWICH Fellowships: Be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from the HOME university (sample is included in the application form).
* For SANDWICH Fellowships: Be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from the HOME university (sample is included in the application form).
* For FULL-TIME Fellowships: Be willing to register at a university in India.
* Be accepted at a biotechnology institution in India (see sample Acceptance Letter included in the application form).

President Graduate Fellowships 2010, National University of Singapore, Singapore

The PGF is open to full-time candidates of all nationalities. Incoming Ph.D. students and current NUS Research Scholars (with the exception of SMA and NGS students) who have passed the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination (QE) are eligible to be considered for the award.

Award Amount
* A monthly stipend throughout the period of award as follows:

International Student S$3,000
Singapore Permanent Resident S$3,200
Singapore Citizen S$3,300

* Tuition fees at the University;
* A one-off air travel allowance for 1 one-way ticket of up to S$750 (only for overseas students); and
* A one-off settling allowance of S$1,000 (only for overseas students).

Award Period
The award is tenable for an initial 1 year and, subject to the awardee’s satisfactory progress, renewable annually up to a maximum of 4 years. For candidates who were transferred from a NUS Research Scholarship to a PGF, the total period of their tenure on both schemes must not exceed 4 years.

Application Procedure
Incoming Ph.D. students will have to indicate their interest in the PGF via the NUS Graduate Research Programme Application System. Current NUS Research Scholars who have passed the Ph.D. QE and wish to be considered for the award will have to apply to their respective departments.

Notification of Award

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications sometime in May (for August intake) or October (January intake).
