2011 PhD Position in Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University, Netherlands

Agency, Gender, and Economic Development in the World Economy 1850-2000 is a project that endeavors’ to explore how ‘agency’, conceptualized as the potential for individual decision-making at the levels of households, economic activity and political participation, contributed to global economic development and vice versa. a (research) master’s degree in economic and social history, or in economics or another social science with shown interest in (economic and social) history a theoretical background and a strong interest for relevant theory; an outstanding record of undergraduate and master’s degree work; the ability to work with large data sets.

We offer a PhD position (1,0 fte) with a one year contract beginning June 2011. After a positive evaluation this contract can be extended to a maximum of three more years (a total of four years maximum). This provides graduates with an opportunity to finish their doctoral dissertation in four years, funded by NWO. Salary will be rising from € 2.042,- a month (before taxes) during the first year to € 2.612,- a month during the fourth year on a fulltime basis. We also offer solid benefits.

Edinburgh Global Online Distance Learning Master’s Scholarships, UK: Humanities, Social Sciences, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine

The University of Edinburgh will offer 6 Master’s scholarships for eligible distance learning Master’s programmes offered by the University. Each scholarship will have a total value of £5,000 which will be deducted from the tuition fee for the entire part-time programme of study.
Scholarships will be available for students pursuing one of the following distance learning programmes: The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level or the international equivalent. When completing the personal statement of the scholarship application form, please indicate why Distance Learning suits your particular circumstances making reference to both online learning and distance learning.
Eligibility: The scholarships will be awarded to students who are accepted for admission onto the above eligible distance learning Master’s programmes at the University of Edinburgh.

2011-2012 Nigeria Scholarships at Newcastle University, UK: Humanities Arts and Social Sciences (HASS), Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE), and Medical Sciences

The International Office is delighted to announce 2 Newcastle University Nigeria Scholarship (NU Nigeria Scholarship) awards. These are available for high achieving Nigerian students applying for entry onto postgraduate taught degree or research programmes within the Faculties of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences (HASS), Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE), and Medical Sciences (FMS) commencing their studies in September 2011.  Each scholarship will have a value of £3,000, payable towards the first year of tuition fees.
Eligibility: You could be eligible to apply for a NU Nigeria Scholarship if: You have been offered a place on any postgraduate degree programme in the faculties of HASS,  SAgE or FMS.You are a Nigerian national and have been assessed as international/overseas for fees purposes.
