James Beard Foundation Scholarship Program for Professional Work/Study Grant, USA

The James Beard Foundation offers the Jean-Louis Palladin Professional Work/Study Grant to enable qualified professional cooks and chefs to work with producers of food products at their source. The amount of the grant will be based on the time and expenses needed to complete a specific training plan. Covered expenses, up to $4,000, include travel to and from the internship location and income subsidies and living
expenses during the internship.

Applicants for the Jean-Louis Palladin Professional Work/Study Grant may select from one of the following internships or submit an original study plan, including curriculum details. Although the individuals or organizations listed have agreed to host Jean-Louis Palladin interns, applicants are encouraged to outline their own work/study plan and explore all possible options. Arranged internships must be taken at times mutually agreed upon by the applicant and suppliers. All internships must be taken within one year after they are awarded.

Fessenden-Trott Scholarship and Internships 2011 for Canadian Students, Canada

The program is restricted to universities in the province of Quebec in the year 2011; Applications are by nomination only. Each university may nominate ONE candidate; Each institution sets its own internal policies and procedures concerning the selection of its nominee; Candidates must have completed the first year of their first bachelor degree program by the deadline date of June 1 in a Canadian educational institution which is a member or affiliated to a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC); Applicants must be enrolled full-time and be entering the second year of their first bachelor degree program; Candidates must have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency by June 1.Any Canadian educational institution which is a member,
or affiliated to a member of the AUCC.

The Research Internship Program Researching Reality provides a greatly valued and needed learning experience in real-life application of social and economic principles and in teaching college students the skills of research, analysis, writing, and above all critical thinking.

Research Areas

Interns research and write papers on the impact of critical public policies in areas such as livelihood, education, governance and environment.
* How does one become a street vendor or start a school or a community radio?
* How much does your state government spend on primary education?
* How do slum dwellers get water and electricity?
* What is the impact of special economic zones and rent control laws?
* Can public services be provided privately?
* How can we make RTI more effective?
