Applications are invited for the three-year fellowships from candidates that hold or expect to hold a master’s degree in a field relevant to the following projects:

1. Drug Delivery

2. Optimal Drug Therapy

3. Optimal Drug Therapy

4. Neuropharmacology

5. Medicinal Chemistry – Structure-Based Drug Research
Design and synthesis of the first selective ligands for the GPRC6A receptor – a novel human G-protein coupled receptor with unknown physiological function.

6. Medicinal Chemistry – Structure-based Drug Research
Elucidating the structure and mechanism of proton coupled peptide transporters.

7. Drug  Delivery – Pharmaceutical Technology
In vivo and in vitro gastric physico-relevant dissolution.

The project is cofinanced by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and AstraZeneca Mölndal, Sweden.

8. Drug Delivery – Pharmaceutical  Technology
Rational development of oromucosal drug delivery systems by use of predictive in vitro models.
Main supervisor: Associate Professor Jette Jacobsen, Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry (email: jeja(at)farma.ku.dk).

The project is cofinanced by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Innnovation Consortium “Predicting Drug Absorption”.

The PhD fellowships are to be completed in accordance with the Ministerial order on the PhD programme at the universities (PhD order) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Regulations and guidelines for the conferment of the PhD degree by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The terms of employment are stated in the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance.

PhD student: The Prospects for High Efficiency Solar Cells, Netherlands

The department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) engages in education and research in the area of operational business processes and transitions in societies in relation to technical changes. In the IE&IS department, scholars and students work together on critical problems at the interface of engineering, management, innovation, and human behavior. The department has two schools: the School of Industrial Engineering and the School of Innovation Sciences.

The School of Innovation Sciences is one of the leading IS schools in Europe, with a strong presence in the international research and education community. Within the School of Innovation Sciences three degree programs are taught: BSc in Innovation Sciences, MSc in Human Technology Interaction, and MSc in Innovation Sciences. Moreover, the school participates in several PhD programs set up by national research schools. The School of Innovation Sciences also contributes to the 3TU Centre of Excellence in Ethics & Technology.

Research in Innovation Sciences deals with the economic, sociological and psychological determinants and consequences of pervasive technological changes in society. From a socio-technical perspective, technological changes leading to fundamental and pervasive changes in the organization and culture of a society have been characterized with the concept of “transition”. The economics discipline contributes to this research agenda by examining the role of markets, firms and sectors affect the flow of knowledge and technology in society.

Tasks
One PhD position is available in the area of innovation research at the Technology, Innovation and Society group at the School of Innovation Sciences at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in The Netherlands. This research project will assess the long term prospects of solar cells (PV). Research will analyze the development of technological trajectories of different types of solar cells in order to identify market opportunities and niche applications, in particular for high efficiency solar cells. The project aims at contributing to a successful implementation of solar cells by developing innovative business models, using Strategic Niche Management and other relevant innovation theories.

The PhD student will do his/her research as part of a large energy research project on nano-wire multi-junction solar cells for concentrator photovoltaics applications. In this project researchers and PhD’s from TU/e work in close cooperation with industry.

Requirements
We welcome applications from candidates with a Master degree and an excellent academic record in innovation studies and management, science, technology and society (STS) studies, Sustainable Energy Technologies (SET) or other relevant MSc programs.

Postdoctoral Position in Advanced Modelling of Gas-turbine Combustion, Netherlands

The Department of Mechanical Engineering considers as the core of their activities design, realization and analysis of new products, processes and materials. Besides the basis of (solid and fluid) mechanics, materials, control and thermodynamics, parts of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computing science are important supporting tools. The field is explored by a combination of modeling using fundamental concepts and applied engineering and technology. Automotive Engineering Science and Micro- amp; Nano-Scale Engineering are important departemental themes. The Mechanical Engineering Department comprises about 1000 students and 250 staff members. In the Combustion Technology Group, research is conducted on combustion processes in domestic and industrial applications. The main purpose of the research is related to the optimization of combustion processes and applications and the reduction of the pollutant emissions of, for instance soot, NO, CO, CO2 and partially unburned hydrocarbons. This is achieved by the development of new modelling and measurement techniques for flames and reacting flows, which is crucial for stimulating further technical developments in several areas in Combustion Technology, such as combustion in domestic and industrial installations, process equipment, biomass systems, gas turbines, internal combustion engines, etc. Tasks In the present project several complicated turbulent combustion phenomena are addressed on the level of modelling issues for future design CFD. The project partners are Siemens Power Group and Rolls-Royce and both aero and stationary combustion is considered. For these companies two Ph.D. students will develop new implementations to handle complex phenomena associated with preferential diffusion, complex combustion modes, quenching etc.. The postdoc will guide these developments and takes care of the theoretical framework within the method of Flamelet Generated Manifolds (FGM or FPI) and associated consistency issues. Requirements We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate who has been graduated from a PhD program (dr.) in turbulent combustion modelling. The candidate should be familiar with the framework of FGM). We are aiming for the best candidates that have strong affinity for theory, (consistent) implementation and at the same time candidates that never lose the focus towards the application of gas-turbine design. The preferred scientist will show a strong personal and scientific growth during the years. Excellent analytical and communication skills, and fluency in written and spoken English are essential. The postdoc should not reject the possibility to stay in the US for 1 year.
