Research Position for Language & Cognitive Neuroimaging at Radboud University,2011,Netherlands

The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour and the Centre for Language Studies (Faculty of Arts) are seeking to fill a research staff position. The researcher should specialize in cognitive neuroimaging research that is explicitly related to language.

As a researcher you will work at the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging, where you will carry out an independent research project. In addition, you are expected to promote and facilitate collaborative research projects proposed by language researchers from the Centre for Language Studies, by liaising between them and fellow researchers at the DCCN.
The position has an initial term for 3 years, with the possibility of extension on the basis of successful grant applications. The position is immediately available.

PhD Studentship for Cold and Controlled Collisions, Radboud University, Netherlands

The general aim of the project entitled “Cold and Controlled Collisions; a microscope for molecular interactions” is to study collisions between atoms and molecules at low temperatures and with unprecedented precision. We will use the Stark deceleration technique to obtain full control over the velocity and quantum state of the molecules prior to the collision, and state-of-the-art laser detection techniques to probe the collision products.

The project will focus particularly on the experimental observation of quantum interference effects and scattering resonances.You are an enthusiastic candidate with a strong interest in the fields of physics or physical chemistry. You have obtained a Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, and proven laboratory skills. Good knowledge of English, both written and oral, is compulsory.Employment: 1,0 fte Maximum salary per month, based on a fulltime employment: € 2,612 gross/month .The starting salary is €2,042 per month and will increase to €2,612 per month in the fourth year. 2011 PhD Position in Philosophy of Law, Radboud University, Netherlands

The PhD project involves writing a dissertation on the following topic: ‘Human Rights and Human Duties: Assessing the Obligations entailed in Human Rights’. You have an MA in Philosophy and/ or Law with a clear interest in a philosophical and conceptual approach to legal questions. Furthermore you should have excellent analytical and writing skills in English and Dutch. You have teaching skills or are willing to obtain these skills.The initial contract will be for one and a half years, which then will be renewed if the progress made under this first contract is satisfactory. An employment of 0,8 FTE is negotiable. Commencement date: 1 July (at the latest).

The research aims at the following objectives:
1. Analysing the conceptual link between human rights and human duties.
2. Developing a normative theory of human duties.
3. Proposing practical guidelines for the assessment of the legal implications of human duties.
Alongside the PhD research, the candidate is required to make a small contribution to the teaching of the Philosophy of Law department in the Bachelor of Law programme of the Faculty of Law.
