University of Exeter, Associate Research Fellow Epidemiology or Statistics 2011 in UK

Peninsula Medical School, within the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, is widely regarded as the strongest of the new medical schools in the UK. It has established an excellent reputation for high quality educational programmes and has a high quality and expanding research portfolio. From the outset the School has sought to build an international research reputation, to complement its innovative educational programme, through tight focus on areas of strength and exploitation of its pan-peninsula status.

This post will support a grant funded research project on age-related diseases, with a special focus on the effects of common genetic variation. Conditions of interest include cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and Alzheimer’s disease. There will be opportunities to develop your own research interests within the project.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist to an Associate Research Fellow position. You will have a degree in epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics or equivalent and have a knowledge and experience of undertaking statistical analyses of human study genetic and other data.

A PhD in a relevant subject or evidence of PhD level research outputs would be desirable as would skills in statistical analysis, including use of relevant software

This is a University of Exeter appointment and will be based in Exeter.

Salary will be on the Associate Research Fellow scale of £24,273 – £27,319, with access to further contribution points rising to £30,747

Point on scale will be determined by knowledge, skills and experience, and will be clarified following interview. The post will be fixed term until 30th April 2012.

University of Oxford ,Fitzjames Research Fellowship in English 2011 in UK

Merton College proposes to elect to a four-year Fitzjames Research Fellowship in Old and Middle English to commence in October 2011.  This career development post will allow a promising academic at an early stage in his or her career to combine substantial support for research with the opportunity to develop skills in teaching and academic administration.  The teaching commitment will be an average of up to six hours per week in full term and the College is particularly seeking candidates able to teach at least two and preferably more of the following papers in Medieval English: in Mods (first year) papers 3a (Old English) and 3b (Middle English); Finals papers 3a and 3b and some medieval options in papers 7 and 8. An ability to contribute to the teaching of Mods paper 1 would also be an advantage.

The stipend will be £27,006 p.a. and the Fellow will be entitled to meals and free accommodation in College, if available (or a housing allowance) and other benefits.

Applications Are Invited For A One Year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship At The University Of Southampton, Within The Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute This Fellowship Is Part Of The Multi-Disciplinary Research Project “Quantification And Reduction Of Uncertainty For Dispersion Models Via Meteorological Predictions Through Computer Experiments”, Which Is A Collaboration Between The University Of Southampton, Dstl And The Met Office. You Will Have A Phd In Statistics, Or Equivalent Research Experience. A Background In The Design And Analysis Of Experiments, Statistical Modelling Or Computer Experiments Is Desirable. The Main Role Of The Fellow Will Be To Conduct High-Level Statistics Research Into The Design And Analysis Of Computer Experiments.The Post Will Commence On Monday 4 April 2011, Or As Soon As Possible Thereafter.
