Research Position in Biometerics, Africa Rice Center, Cotonou

Under the supervision of the Biometrician, the Research Assistant will be in charge of all activities related to biometrics/statistics at AfricaRice.
-He/she will be responsible of the following activities:
-Analyzing research data using appropriate statistical software Formulating advices for establishing field, greenhouse and lab trials
-Creating tables and graphs using appropriate software
-Bibliographic searching and writing technical reports and other scientific
-publications in English and French
-Assist in preparing presentations/slides on research results using- software such as PowerPoint
-Undertake any other professional task depending on the needs of the Center
Qualifications
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
-M.Sc. degree or equivalence in biometrics, biostatistics or statistics
-At least 2?year experience in data collection and statistical analysis of agronomical, environmental and socio?economic data.
-Experience in establishing and monitoring agricultural trials is desirable.
-Knowledge of statistical analysis packages such as GenStat, R, SAS, STATA as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
-Experience in teaching statistics to non?statisticians
-Mastery of English or French with working knowledge of the other language
-Be able to work under pressure in a multicultural setting
-Have a spirit of initiative and be able to carry out tasks with minimum supervision

Doctoral Position in Mathematical Statistics, Lund University, Sweden

PhD-studies in Mathematical Statistics, comprising in total two years of course work and two years of thesis work. Usually additionally one year (20% each year of a five year period) is also dedicated to work at the department, mainly teaching.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

In addition to the basic qualifications for postgraduate studies, 60 ECTS credits are required in mathematical subjects, of which at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematical statistics. Applications Are Invited For A One Year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship At The University Of Southampton, Within The Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute This Fellowship Is Part Of The Multi-Disciplinary Research Project “Quantification And Reduction Of Uncertainty For Dispersion Models Via Meteorological Predictions Through Computer Experiments”, Which Is A Collaboration Between The University Of Southampton, Dstl And The Met Office. You Will Have A Phd In Statistics, Or Equivalent Research Experience. A Background In The Design And Analysis Of Experiments, Statistical Modelling Or Computer Experiments Is Desirable. The Main Role Of The Fellow Will Be To Conduct High-Level Statistics Research Into The Design And Analysis Of Computer Experiments.The Post Will Commence On Monday 4 April 2011, Or As Soon As Possible Thereafter.
