BU Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship September 2012 entry for Nigeria, Ghana, Indonesia, Russia and Vietnam

This scholarship is offered to students who have applied to study a full-time taught postgraduate (Masters) degree at BU and who are resident in one of the following countries: Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia or Vietnam.

Students resident in the following countries at the time of application who are classified as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes are eligible to apply.

  • Vietnam

To which courses does this scholarship apply?

All full-time BU postgraduate courses.

How much is the scholarship worth?

50% of tuition fee payable for the standard duration of the course (excludes repeat units).

How is this scholarship paid?

Scholarships are paid by a reduction in tuition fee.

How many scholarships are awarded annually?

Ten (two for each eligible country)

What are the criteria for this scholarship?

  • You must be able to demonstrate an exceptional academic profile (equivalent to UK 1st Class Honours degree as assessed by NARIC)
  • You must be able to demonstrate an outstanding personal profile as evidenced in your personal statement.

Other information about this scholarship

  • Recipients of this scholarship cannot be in receipt of any other BU scholarship
  • Financial need will not be taken into consideration.

When will I hear if I have been successful?

Successful applicants will normally be informed by 31 June 2012. Although we may contact you with a decision in principle based on any predicted grades, your award will not be formally approved until you hold an unconditional firm offer.

Eligibility:

  • Students from any overseas country, except New Zealand, who are commencing a new research degree course and do not already hold an equivalent degree are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants for coursework awards are not eligible to apply, even where there is a research component in the degree.
  • Students who have already commenced their research degree may not be eligible.
  • Current AusAID students are ineligible.

Scholarship Description: These awards are for full-time study towards higher degrees by research. IPRS are funded by the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Competition for scholarships is intense; only applicants with extensive research training and experience will be offered an award. UWS may also offer University funded awards called UWS International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (UWSIPRS). These awards carry the same stipend and conditions as the government funded IPRS. Applicants do not need to apply separately for these awards. All applicants for the IPRS are automatically considered for the UWSIPRS if they are not offered an IPRS.

School of Advanced Study Doctoral Studentships, University of London, UK

The School offers its own Studentships for research (doctoral) degree study (MPhil/PhD). In 2011-12 we expect to offer up to two research (doctoral) degree Studentships, for commencing October 2011. he School Studentships are funded at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. In addition to fees, the rates for maintenance in 2010-11 are given below as a guide: Research students: £15,590 full-time and £9,355 part-time. It is not at present clear whether this will increase or remain the same for 2011-12.  Students assessed for fees at the overseas rate will be required to pay the difference between the Overseas and Home/EU fee. Only if you have been offered a place by the Institute in which you wish to study, and you have accepted it, are you eligible to submit an application for funding. Eligible students can apply both for AHRC and School doctoral studentships using the combined application form. Students applying to all funding strands need only complete one form.
Eligibility: School Doctoral Studentships cover fees and maintenance allowance at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. Studentships can be awarded to Home/EU or Overseas students and can be for full-time or part-time study. Only those students beginning their first year of study in 2011/12 are eligible.
