ACFR Rio Tinto Centre for Mining Automation Scholarship in Field Robotics, University of Sydney 2011, Australia

The Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) at the University of Sydney has established a major new Centre for Mine Automation. Rio Tinto, a global mining company, has committed $21 million of funding for an initial period of five years for this new Centre. The aim of the Centre for Mining Automation is to develop and implement the vision of a fully autonomous, remotely operated mine.

The ACFR is seeking students interested in PhD research in the area of autonomous systems, including data fusion, perception, control, learning and systems to be part of this exciting new initiative and apply for a full time scholarship sponsored by Rio Tinto.There is no closing date for this opportunity. Applications are now open year round and successful applicants are expected to commence at the start of either semester one or semester two.Applicants should have a first class Honours degree in mechanical/mechatronics engineering, mining engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical/aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or a related discipline or extensive appropriate professional experience.The scholarship is valued at $27,651 per annum (tax exempt). The scholarship will be supplemented by access to overseas travel grants and other allowances.

Postdoctoral and Graduate Positions in Computational Molecular Engineering, Alto University, Finland

Nanoengineering group of BECS seeks a scientist and a graduate student for modelling of high efficiency light-emitting, energy harvesting and energy conversion devices (especially thermophotonic devices and novel light emitting structures) enabled by molecular and nanomaterials.

The research focuses in device physics and research of optical, thermal and transport properties of nanomaterials.The salaries are based on the demands level of the job and on the competence and performance of the employee as defined by the policies of Aalto University. The post-doc position is planned for 1+2 years, with a salary corresponding to demands level 5 (approximately 3 270-3440 €/month). The graduate student post duration is 2-4 years, depending on the starting level of the candidate. The salary corresponds to demands level 4 (approximately 2820-2960 €/month).

PhD Scholarships in Particle Physics at University of Southern Denmark, Denmark

The Centre for Particle Physics Phenomenology (CP3-Origins) and the Department of Physics and Chemistry at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense invite applications for two PhD scholarships. We expect the two positions to be filled in the area of strongly interacting theories beyond the Standard Model, collider phenomenology, astroparticle physics, cosmology and lattice field theory.
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three or four years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three- or four-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
