With a view to intensify interaction and the scientific cooperation between Indian and Ukraine Scientists/Institutions, Department of Science and Technology (DST) for the Government of the Republic of India and the State Agency on Science, Innovations and Information of Ukraine extend support for joint research projects involving exchange of visits, workshops /conferences, under the India-Ukraine Bilateral Scientific Cooperation programme.

Fermilab Fellowships in Theoretical Physics 2011, USA: Theoretical particle physics or theoretical astrophysics

Fermilab announces fellowships for graduate students at U.S. universities who are in the research phase of graduate study in theoretical particle physics or theoretical astrophysics. These fellowships will last for one year (12 months), generally starting in the Fall. They will carry a competitive stipend as well as allowances for travel and (reduced) tuition. Fellows will remain matriculated at their home universities but be in residence at Fermilab. To be eligible, prospective fellows must identify a Fermilab supervisor from the scientific staff of either the Theoretical Physics Department or Theoretical Astrophysics Department. These departments offer strong and exciting research opportunities in collider physics, model building, neutrino physics, perturbative QCD, lattice gauge theory, astrophysics, and cosmology. The research environment at Fermilab, while theoretically rigorous, is nourished by close connections with the laboratory’s experimental programs. Applications will be taken through academicjobsonline (if needed, select FFThPh2011). Applicants must submit a CV and a plan for research while at Fermilab. Applicants should arrange for their university supervisor to submit a letter of recommendation explaining not only the applicant’s suitability for fellowship but also how research at Fermilab would enrich the applicant’s graduate studies. Finally, the Fermilab staff member supervising the student’s research will have to prepare a short written summary of research goals during the fellowship. This summary may be written after the application has been submitted, but it is highly recommended that applicants contact potential supervisors as soon as possible. The selection committee will facilitate connections between applicants and potential Fermilab supervisors. Research Position:Microwave Power Systems for Irradiating Bio-solids, UBC, Canada

We have a research opportunity for a talented graduate student (preferably PhD) interested in a multi-disciplinary research project in microwave power systems for heating bio-solids (residuals from sewage treatment plants) for enhanced energy (biogas) recovery. The student should have a strong background in electromagnetic theory and microwave engineering, and be interested in applying this knowledge to develop innovative waveguide structures for irradiating bio-solids. The student will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team and work with graduate students in environmental engineering who are developing innovative methods for treating organic waste from municipal and industrial sources. The research will involve theoretical work associated with the development of electro-thermal models for bio-solids, integrating these models into EM simulations of waveguide structures, and laboratory work to measure dielectric properties and implement microwave power systems.
