Research Grant “Effel Donation” in Oncology and Leukaemia, Netherlands

This grant is allocated to a postdoctoral researcher affiliated to a university in the Flemish Community or affiliated to the Evangelische Protestantse Faculteit in Leuven and the Faculteit voor Protestantse Godgeleerdheid in Brussels, or to a Flemish or a Federal institute for scientific research, in order to promote research.
The candidates must have Belgian nationality or belong to one of the member states of the European Union or the European Economic Area (EU-countries, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein).A grant totalling €7,450 for the purchase of equipment or to cover bench fees. If this date falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the closing date is moved to the following Monday at 17.00h. In order to ensure that all candidates get an equal chance, no bibliographical additions will be accepted after this date. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the FWO is not responsible for the temporary unavailability of the system. Therefore, we advise you to submit at least one to two weeks before the closing date.

Stuart Morson Scholarship in Neurosurgery for National and International Applicants

The Stuart Morson Scholarship in Neurosurgery has been established following a generous donation by Mrs Elisabeth Morson in memory of her late husband.

Objective – To assist young neurosurgeons within 5 years of obtaining their Fellowship from the College or neurosurgical Trainees to meet the costs of undertaking further training and/or research work in neurosurgery overseas. The scholarship will also be open to exceptional young surgeons who are registered to practice neurosurgery in Australia or New Zealand, but are not Fellows of the College. It may also be applied, from time to time, to assist overseas surgeons to spend time in Australia or New Zealand to further their training and/or research in neurosurgery.

Condition – Overseas applicants cannot have commenced travel prior to applying for the scholarship.

Postdoctoral Position in Circadian Neurobiology, Denmark

The Department of Neurosc. & Pharmacology, Circadian Research Group, the Protein Laboratory, is seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to study the function of the non-image forming system of the brain and the influence of this system on circadian rhythms. The goal is to characterize the involvement of the different photoreceptors in the regulation of the gene expression in the suprachiasmatic nucleus and the secretion of melatonin from the pineal gland by use of histological and molecular neurobiological methods.

The appointee should have qualifications within at least some of the following areas:

1. Molecular biological techniques, e.g. PCR, qRT-PCR, microchip analysis
2. Neuroanatomical techniques, e.g. histology, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization.
3. Rodent neuroanatomy and embryology
4. A phd or equivalent laboratory research background in the above mentioned areas.
