Mary Mallon Memorial Scholarship 2011, New Zealand

The award was established in memory of the late Mary Mallon, Professor in Human Resource Management, to help students attain further qualifications to advance their careers in human resource management.

Value
The award shall have a minimum value of $1,000 for one academic year.

Tenure
One or more Mary Mallon Memorial Scholarships will be awarded annually.

Eligibility
Candidates must be enrolled, in the year the scholarship is awarded, in either 114.899 – Thesis Human Resource Management or 114.900 – PhD Human Resource Management at the Palmerston North campus of Massey University.

Criteria
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit and consideration will also be given to the nature and costs of the proposed research project.

Responsibility for the Award
The Scholarship shall be awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the advice of the Department of Management research committee.

Payment
The emolument will be paid in one lump sum presented in person at the Department of Management graduation function in Palmerston North in May, or sent to the recipient in May if the student is unable to attend the graduation function.

Conditions of the award
This scholarship is tenable with other scholarships. The University has the right to refrain from making the award in the event of there being no suitable applicants.

Weinstein International Fellowship, USA

The Weinstein International Fellowship program provides opportunities for individuals from outside the United States to visit the U.S. to learn more about dispute resolution processes and practices and to pursue a project of their own design that serves to advance the resolution of disputes in their home countries.

The JAMS Foundation Board of Directors will approve Fellowships of up to $25,000 in support of projects outlined by Fellowship applicants. This program is intended to be flexible and open to innovation, and applicants are encouraged to develop proposals that will increase the availability of dispute resolution education, training and services in their home countries and beyond.

During their time in the U.S., Fellows may be based in a JAMS Resolution Center or may participate in a university program or be connected to another organization or institution, depending on the nature of their proposal. Fellowships may be from one month to one year in duration.

It is anticipated that Fellows will come from countries that do not have an established culture of using mediation for cases in litigation. Part of the Fellows’ time in the United States will be spent observing how JAMS administers and resolves such cases.

Criteria
1. Applicants must be fluent in English
2. Fellowship period must be one month to twelve months in duration
3. Preference for proposals that would help applicant’s home country establish viable dispute resolution systems or change how disputes are resolved
4. Preference for applicants who have experience as lawyers, law professors, court administrators, government officers, ADR practitioners, or judges

While the JAMS Foundation will make every effort to help facilitate visa applications of Weinstein Fellows, Fellows are individually responsible for obtaining the necessary visa for the purposes and duration of their Fellowship.

Please also note that pursuant to U.S. Internal Revenue Service regulations, Fellowship funding is subject to taxation as income. This tax may be affected by a number of factors, including recipient’s country of origin, whether that country has a tax treaty with the U.S., and the purpose for which Fellowship funds are used. Fellowship applications for the 2011-2012 term will be reviewed by the JAMS Foundation Board of Directors at their first quarterly meeting on January 28, 2011. Post doc in Environmental and Maritime Transport Economics, Denmark

Traditionally the externalities of transport have been well researched and described for land based transport like road and rail. This is however not the case for maritime transport. As the major externalities of maritime transport are contribution to pollution and global warming the Department of Environmental and Business Economics would like enhance its research into the field of sustainable maritime transport by economic valuation of shipping externalities.

Besides this research area, the Post doc will also be involved in the Departments ongoing and future projects in environmental and transport economics whereas teaching obligations will be limited.

The Department of Environmental and Business Economics http://www.sdu.dk/ime is part of the Faculty of Social Science. The Department is located at the University of Southern Denmark’s campus in Esbjerg (55o29’27.75’’ N, 8o26’57.75’’ E).

Research in the Department is organized in four research units and two research centres. The position is linked to both the research unit for Environmental and Resource Economics and the Centre for Maritime Research and Innovation. Both units have an international working environment with English as working language.

Application, salary, etc
Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and in accordance with the job description for instructors and academic personnel at institutions of higher education.

The basic salary including social benefits is app. 50.000 EUR/year before tax plus pension (17,1%). It is possible for no-natives moving to Denmark to apply for a tax reduction scheme.
